The views: Mount Baranci from our windows
From the north-facing windows there's Mount Baranci, and it changes colour by the hour: pink in the early morning, white in winter, deep green at the height of summer. A few rooms — Anastasia, Samblana, Zenobia, Lakshmi — look straight at it; the others face the rooftops and the old Collegiata. It's the kind of view that keeps the curtains open in the evening.
In winter San Candido is **Italy's capital of cross-country skiing**: more than 200 km of trails that start down in the valley, a short walk from the door. If you don't ski, there are snowshoes and paths tramped through the snow. In summer you walk or cycle the Val Pusteria bike path, and the Dolomite trails begin just outside the town.
Visit the Braies Lake, Cortina and other gems of the Dolomites
The Three Peaks and Lake Braies are the two pictures everyone comes for, and from San Candido they're close, a short drive or bus ride away. Cortina is just over the pass. Within a short radius you'll find the Val Fiscalina, the Croda Rossa meadows, Prato Piazza, and the lakes at Dobbiaco and Landro.
