The house of women, in the centre of San Candido
Zenana means the women's quarters: in the old houses, the part of the home kept for the women. We took the word at face value. Ten rooms, each named after a woman, each with a colour and a story of its own.
The building dates from 1753 and doesn't hide it: low ceilings, narrow stairs, light that shifts from one room to the next. In the evening we light the candles. On the beds you'll find antique linen from different eras, fabrics we've gathered over years of travelling.
We call it **the house of women** because that is how it grew, in the hands of Anna and Maria, mother and daughter. You'll find us here every day, to say welcome and good morning.
Where we are
Zenana sits on the main street of San Candido, inside the pedestrian centre. The Baranci ski lifts are a three-minute walk away, the old Collegiata church just around the corner. Covered parking is included, which matters in a town centre: leave the car and you won't need it for days. The train station and the Val Pusteria buses are minutes away, if you'd rather come and get around without a car.

Inside, a small lift takes you up through the floors; on the ground floor there's a reading room with our library, for an hour away from your room. The rest is down to how we host. We're a small house, and we like to know the people who stay. Home-made breakfast in the morning, honest advice on where to go, and the feeling that you've arrived at someone's home rather than checked into a hotel.
